Breakfast of Champions

One Happy Camper

Ian's First Bowl of Cereal

In an effort to get little man to sleep thru the night we decided to start him on rice cereal. So last Saturday morning we broke out the bowl, spoon, and makeshift highchair (a.k.a. the swing) and the cereal. To our suprise he did really well with the spoon and liked the cereal too. So we figured we would try it again before bed, but when it comes to night time this little fellow is serious about his bottle and proved to be to impatient to eat off of the spoon again, so in the bottle the cereal went and he was happy--He still hasn't slept thru the night yet, but we will get there one day (Hopefully before he goes off to college!!).

ExerSaucin'

Last week we were trying to think of other ways to entertain Ian other than the swing or bouncy seat, so we brought out the exersaucer. His feet actually can touch the bottom of it (we had to lower it as low as it would go) and he seemed to be mesmorized by all of the brightly colored toys infront of him. However, he does not quite have complete control of his head yet and kept tipping forward. Hopefully in a couple more weeks he will have that under control and will really be able to enjoy playing in it.

Chubby Cheeks is Now 8 Weeks

Mr Chubby Cheeks is now a whole eight weeks old and weighing in ,as of a week ago, at 9lbs 12oz--Doesn't seem to me like he should be this old already, but as they say.. time flies when you're having fun!

Thank Heaven's for Summer!! (And an end to Fourth Grade)

We are SO glad that it is summer and school is out!! As many of you know Jasmine had a rough year in fourth grade this year, but it has finally come to an end. EOGs were tough and she ended up having to re-take them over 1 stinking little point. But the second time she did really well and we are very proud of her for all of her hard work. Way to go Jas!

Little Man Turns 1 Month Old

Over the weekend "little man" as he has been nicknamed by his daddy turned one month old! It seems unreal to me that that much time has passed already. He has also had another milestone in that he now can wear his newborn sized diapers instead of preemies. And some of his newborn sized clothes actually fit him now and others are still way to big for him.

Weighing In

Today we went to the pediatrician's office for a re-check on Ian's weight. Two weeks ago he was at 5lbs 10oz and today (which is actually the day our c-section was scheduled for) he is up to 6lbs 14oz. Way to grow buddy!!

Playtime for Ian

Here are a few shots of playtime at the Whitley house. We introduced Ian to the playmat yesterday in order to try to keep him awake a little more during the day so he would sleep at night--wishful thinking! I think he and I had about 2 maybe 3 hours of broken up sleep last night due to his tummy aches and pains. We just can't seem to find a formula that agrees with this poor little guys tummy (I think he inherited my sensitive stomach-bless his heart(and that's a real one) ). We have tried regular Enfamil, which didn't work, Prosobee, better than the first but still a failure, and at the suggestion of Dr Lawrence Gentlease, which is made for babies with fussiness and gas which has done much better than the others, but even with that and Mylicon gas drops this little fellow is still miserable during the late afternoons and at night. So we have a call in to the Drs office to see what else we can do.

Two Weeks Old Today

It's hard to believe that this little guy has been in our lives for two weeks already. Feedings are going much better than before with the exception of a few rough nights of fussiness and gas pains--thank heavens for Mylicon drops!!

Update

Just wanted to let everyone know that we are all doing fine--When we brought Ian home from the hospital he was not feeding well at all (it would take us about 50 minutes and a lot of work to get him to drink one ounce of milk) and he had lost down to 5 lbs 8oz. The pediatrician at the hospital told us that it is not uncommon for c-section babies not to want to take to feeding well, especially those that are born early, because it's as if they are still sleeping in the womb, even though they are not.But after a trip to see Dr Lawrence and the nurse took his temperature rectally he "woke up" so to speak (of course who wouldn't after that!). Now he is actually waking us up to feed him instead of the other way around and is dowing about two ounces, sometimes three, of milk at a time. Friday when we took him for a re-check on his weight he was back up to 5lbs 10 oz--not quite back up to birth weight but is making progress which we are all pleased with.

As for me, I am doing much better. And for those ladies out there who say having a c-section is the way to go-- I beg to differ!! At least now I am able to get up and around and am slowly but surely getting back to normal.

Jasmine is being an excellent big sister and a tremendous help to Todd & I with the baby. She absolutely loves him to death. She enjoys helping feed him and holding him, which she has to do every morning before she goes to school and as soon as she gets home in the afternoons. We just can't get her to change his diaper--go figure!

As for Todd, let's just say that Jasmine has him wrapped around one finger and Ian has the other.

More Pictures of Me

Here are a couple of shots of Ian the day we brought him home from the hospital,as well as a few with me in them.

And the Winner Is???

This year at Jasmine's school fourth graders are encouraged to enter a project in the science fair, so she being the "science and math geek" as she so lovingly calls herself, decided to do just that. Her project tested some of the so-called latest and greatest cleaning products on the market, such as Tide-to-Go and Oxi-Clean, to remove an ink stain from a cotton shirt. A Clorox gel pen and rubbing alcohol were also used to try to remove the stain. She thought that the Oxi-Clean would work best, but that was not the case. As for the Tide-to-Go, don't waste your money if it's ink your trying to remove. The Clorox gel pen was actually the winner. And for all of the effort she put forth into the project, she won herself an honorable mention ribbon. Way to go Jas!!

Follow the Leader

The Whitley's are now playing follow the leader--thanks to all of our blogging friends! We couldn't be out done, so here we go with our very own family blog. Besides, we thought this would be a neat way of sharing what's going on in our lives with family and friends, as well as the birth of the newest addition to the clan (when it happens next month, that is).
